Seminar on the “Relevance of Gandhi: Truth and Non-Violence” held
Department of Philosophy under the able guidance of Principal, Professor Anjali Mahajan
organised Seminar on the topic “Relevance of Gandhi: Truth and Non-Violence” at college campus
on September 22, 2023.
The program was motivated by Literary club of the college under the convenorship of
Dr.Mool Raj, HOD Urdu, in the presence of committee members and faculty of the college. The
whole idea is being exercised under the aegis of Gandhi Jayanti Celebrations 2023.
A formal welcome note was presented by Sanjay Kumar, HOD Philosophy, GCW Udhampur
with an introduction of the topic and life of Mahatma Gandhi. He stressed upon the inclusivity of
National Education Policy (NEP) with WARDHA scheme of Education, proposed by Mahatma Gandhi
in 1937 in Wardha. Also, he stressed Gandhi’s idea of making skill-based education at elementary
level in mother tongue, a driving force behind National Education Policy (NEP).
Speaking on the occasion, Professor Yash Paul, HOD History threw light on the basic themes
on which Gandhiji has worked and practiced in his life; Truth, non-violence and celibacy.
Afterwards, in the concluding remark Dr.Mool Raj, Convener Literary Club highlighted the
practical part of Gandhi’s life. Particularly, he emphasised on the idea of doing and not only
restricting ideas to the level of theory. Further, sole theorizing would lead us nowhere but practice
may lead us to virtuous life which intern might be an example for the world.
Also, five students participated in the Seminar namely Ms. Ritika Karthol, Ms. Surbhi, Ms.
Shallu Devi, Ms. Kashish Mahajan, Ms. Pragnay Raina & Ms. Shruti Sharma participated in the event.
All of them threw light on the topic and highlighted significant aspects of Gandhi’s life. Among others
who graced the occasion by their presence were Dr. Meena Gupta, Dr.Preeti Sharma, Dr. Satish and
Dr. Ashraf.
Earlier, during the program, worthy principal Chief Patron of the program exhorted upon the
keynotes of the life of Mahatma Gandhi and underlined significant aspects of Gandhi’s life and
contribution of Gandhian ideas in shaping up the thought of the world for the better and sustainable
future.
