Govt. College for Women Udhampur, affiliated to University of Jammu, was established in 1986. Since its inception College has achieved landmarks in imparting quality education to the students by using latest techniques through highly qualified and dedicated faculty. Today it has become a premier institution of the District promoting women education, enabling them to get empowered for a better future. The College offers multidiscipline streams like Arts, Science (Medical & Non-Medical), computer Science and Commerce.B.A (Hons) in Hindi shall also be offered in the next session 2019-20.

College Campus is spread over 59 kanals and 19 marlas of land having Administrative Block, Science Block, Arts Block, Library, Girls Common room, Smart Class room, Computer Lab., Sports room, Edusat Lab., besides the class rooms. Hostel is situated in a building of Social Welfare Dept. at Gole market. Proposed three-storey building for housing Geography, computer and music blocks; Auditorium and the college canteen are in pipeline. Further, proposal has been submitted to the higher education authorities for the construction of 8 Pre-fab class rooms with estimated cost of 1.26 crore to meet the shortage of classrooms. Acquisition process is geared up for acquiring 20 kanals and 15 marlas of land at the adjoining vicinity for the construction of girls hostel as per direction of the then Hon’ble Minister of higher Education.

Despite the feeding areas of the College which are mostly rural and backward, it has has excelled in the field of academics. Bagging top positions in University examinations is a regular feature of the College. In the academic session 2014-15, students got two positions in Science stream; whereas in academic session 2013-14, students got two positions: one each in Arts and Commerce stream. In academic session 2012-13, students bagged two positions: one each in Arts and Science Stream. Apart from academics, College has excelled in the field of sports during the recent years. The NCC and NSS units of the College have been recognized at State/National/International level by the performance of their volunteers.
